Looking at the sample, I actually can’t fault the illustration (the lousy template use is something else). Apparently, this is one of those “scare ’em straight” kids books; the very first thing that happens in the book is that a naughty mouse doesn’t listen to his mom and dad and gets eaten by a snake.
So this might actually be a reasonable depiction of the book’s contents; why anyone wants to buy a book with those contents is a different debate.

To the child who receives this book as a Christmas gift, I would be tempted to counter recommend Ambose Bierce’s “Parenticide Club” stories.
Gawd such hideous negativity.

“Awww, that looks like it might be a cute little story for little Pandora — OH MY GOD NOOO!”
Yeah, looks like that mouse’s story ended pretty quick.
So a mouse dystopia?
