I like how the blue bar achieves a bonus stealth head strike at the edge of the page.
I don’t think the art’s horrible. It’s not my thing, but it seems to be common for commercially published books that get sold in physical shops to have this sort of stylised, simplistic art that looks a bit rubbish. What makes no sense is that there are obvious areas at the top and bottom of the image where the text can be put.
