I dunno, never heard man being used as an insult. “You a such a man.” “Don’t be like that guy, he’s a real man.” “Look at you, all dressed up and manning around.” “He totally deserved to be assaulted, he was dressed like a man.”
Where y’all at that man or men is used as an insult the same way ho, slut or floozy are used? I wanna check out that sphere!
I suppose it needs to be “white man,” or maybe “dead white man”…
However, I stand by “floozy” for someone who would wear that short skirt to show off her assets in a snowstorm. (And in my personal lexicon, “floozy” only Venns with “slut” in that they are both female.)
I’ve still never heard men being insulted by being called men or white men, or dead white men. Insults for men usually involve their genitals (“tiny dick energy”), the legitimacy of their birth (“bastard”), or accusing them of being some sort of less-than men (usually feminine, like “pussy” which somehow manages to insult men and women at the same time). Never about wanting, having, or enjoying sex.
I know it’s a societal/cultural thing that women having sex is Bad and men having sex is Good (or at least, not-Bad) but I do find it curious how persistent it is. To me, it’s a suggestion that societal progress is as much of an illusion as thinking evolution is about progress.
I’m sorry, I didn’t mean for this to become a discussion of cultural norms and the like, just pointing out a curiosity. I’m recovering from a minor surgery and have wa-aaaay too much time on my hands!
The male insult (or rather, denigration) is usually applied in third-person, so you’re right, it’s not a real parallel to the sex-related insult names for women.
(I do note in passing that “pussy” and “dick” are both insults that are lobbed at men — I don’t know what that says about our society.)
And I would LOVE some good words in English that castigated males of loose sexual morality. So far, “manslut” is the only contender I’ve seen, but that only piggybacks on the pre-existing female term.
when did NYC move to Florida, tho?
(also why aren’t there derogatory names for men who enjoy sex?)
What, isn’t “men” derogatory enough?

I was going to say “our society is in flux” but when has society ever NOT been in flux?
You’d think male sex workers at least would have a few derogatory names, wouldn’t you?
Gosh, this cover isn’t bad enough to be a finalist for the Lousies, even though we’ve now given it the requisite # of replies!
Democracy is messy.
INDEED!
