It’s ugly, but I can read it on my phone easily.

author comps her work to Agatha Christie (Poirot) and Colin Dexter (Morse) but didn’t take any cover style tips from either (like title styles, clear contrast between title and background, artwork somewhat related to the title with a colour scheme suggesting Mystery).

I can only imagine the interior has the same amount in common with the comps.

No no no. Who would do that? Who would dare compare their own work to the Dame? Or even “only” Colin Dexter? Ye Gods…

it’s like watching bloody Branagh, who has made a career–a much-lauded career, mind you–using everybody else’s work. Shakespeare, more Shakespeare, Christie…it’s endless.

Nothing boggles me like people who have not been as successful as great writers, filmmakers, scriptwriters, etc., deciding to take a far, far more successful person’s work and “improve” upon it. The sheer hubris of it is mind-blowing.

So, you’re Kenneth Brannagh, having now made a career out of being a relatively not-too-tall actor, speaking the lines written by others and all that and Now, you, YOU, are doing to improve Christie’s books? Improve POIROT?

Honest to God, he should not step out in front of a car I’m driving, that’s all I’m gonna say about that.

if there’s one thing novice writers have in plentiful supply, it’s hubris!
