not time travel so why the modern make-up/hairstyle/nails/jewelry?
not steampunk so why is she wearing her corset over her clothes instead of under them? Amazon says it’s “christian historical fiction” but surely wearing underwear as outerwear isn’t in line with /historical/traditional christian values?
Where is her other hand?
I hate this cover, it’s just so effin’ lazy.
*edit: all of this publisher’s covers suck, quelle surprise
Seriously, I suspect she’s meant to look one-armed. I mean, take a look at her blouse, zoomed as much as you are able, right above HER left-side waist. See the sort of poofed-out area? TO ME, that looks like an arm or a hand, under that blouse. That, or she has a bizarrely-shaped pregnancy.
I don’t think that’s a corset over; I think it’s a decorative flourish for the skirt, BUT, you are correct that in that time period, that type of decoration would not exist. OTOH, it is steampunk so maybe they have gainfully employed monkeys making steam for steam-powered sewing machines (which actually DID exist, mind you!), making lacy decorations for skirts. After all, her top is awash in lace, which at the time, was VERY bloody expensive, as every piece was bespoke AND custom. (Made by hand and unique/custom-ordered.)
I mean, if you look under HER right elbow, there’s a ruffled cuff, out of which some part of a hand ought to be seen (and she seems to be missing some waist/hip there, too).
IF it’s Steampunk, I can forgive the anachronistic clothing, but I didn’t think it was. Then again I just skimmed the Amazon description, so there’s that. It does say it’s set in the 1890s and machine lace was a thing then, but yeah.
I couldn’t watch Reign, even after it was revealed that they purposely used modern clothing (although I was less grumpy knowing it was a choice–a BAD choice, imo–rather than a mistake. The things I obsess about…LOL)

Please tell me that “Industrial Revolution amputee romance” isn’t a new granular subgenre.
You are one sick puppy, mon sweetie. I LUV IT!
(That really was hilarious and OMG, I hope you’re right.) I mean..I hope you’re not right–crap, you know what I mean.

Well, crap, I now agree with you, that is her arm. Honestly, I thought what I now see as the “elbow bulge” was her (hidden) arm.
I don’t believe I’ve ever seen Reign, but you’re not the only one who obsesses about stuff like that. It makes me nuts.
