Styrofoam pillars wrapped in bath mats???

Not too far off. Most Grecian-style columns used for small construction these days are made of aluminum or even PVC and fitted over steel posts. MUCH lighter than marble! I haven’t seen or been involved with any building projects that used them, but I imagine the bubble-wrap around the middle allows one to attach a hoist without damaging the column. (It can probably be moved up & down the column as needed.)
