I think that we’re meant to infer–and this is badly done, no argument–that we’re seeing the “real” identities, shapes, etc. of the ladies, in their shadows.
Sort of like in those B+ movies, where some woman is all hot and steamin’ and that, but when seen in a mirror/glass/whatever, you can see that she’s really a demon? That’s my guess. No illustrator could be this far off, otherwise. Right? Amirite?
I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that The Visitor From Incel World is Hugo/Nebula-Award material (just try to describe the Hugo and Nebula Awards to a pretty girl and you will see what I mean)

I really don’t think that’s it, unless we’re meant to infer that two bikini babes are actually six soldiers.
Well…it seems pretty bogglingly badly stoopid, then, otherwise. How the hell do you NOT notice shadows for six soldiers, behind two bikini babes????
You call it “bogglingly badly stoopid.” I call it Tuesday.
Yeah, brutha, you got me there. Can’t argue.
