I think it’s a Kirin with a sword hilt stabbed into its head. (Did I make up “Kirin” or is that a thing? If only there were somewhere to easily look up obscure references for myself.)
You are correct. A Kirin is a mythical Asian beastie which you can see on the label of the beer of the same name. I’m also too lazy to look up any details.
