I don’t disagree, but to be fair, I’m not sure that the average Kindle book browser (person, not, well, you know) would notice that. It’s not as horrible as many, far too many, that we’ve seen. I’m not wild about the cover, don’t get me wrong–it gives “Vanilla” a whole new bad taste–but the shadowing isn’t the biggie here. (n.b.: just so we’re all clear, my Vanilla comment is NOT a race thing; it’s a design thing.)

He is just so very pale. Especially compared to the other two. It’s like he isn’t even really there.
Light sources, folks, although I will say, someone really tried with this; the different angles have to be looked-for.
The angles themselves, maybe — but the different depth of shadow between the sailor and either of the other two figures jumps out at you.
