There are several of these where I think the original was probably better because, although the new cover is much less ugly, the old one did a better job of genre signaling. The new “Three in the Key,” for example, in no way says “basketball romance”; in fact it actively makes you think that we aren’t talking about the key on a basketball court. Similarly “Centauri Survivors”; it’s a pretty picture, but it doesn’t say “Sci-fi” to me.
“Southern Cross Cemetery” may also fall into this category depending on exactly what the genre is (having read the Amazon page, I honestly can’t tell).
