Well…I cannot tell a lie. Two of these are “ours,” so to speak. One is one of our authors, but the covers are all (both before/after) his/hers; the other, yup, the covers, both of them, (before and after) are “ours” in that the author provided the artwork or had explicit art direction both times and insisted on using the results with the requested title, byline, etc. Le sigh.

Sometimes, there are topics or plotlines that simply don’t work well for cover design, or the customer has a vision of the cover ( like Political Nightmare, for example) that just…there’s only so much you can do. It doesn’t make starring on LBC any less ouchy, mind you.

Urghghghghg.

The Golden Golem is the clearest improvement (refrigerator tier to generic-YA tier); yet, as far as the eponymous critter had looked rather like a Honey Golem in the original, the new version seems too similar to one Benjamin Grimm. The updated version of “A Dead Red Horse Thief”, on the other hand, makes me wanna report the cover designer to the RSPCA.
