OMG, yes.
At the Press we could use backspace tags to manually kern bad character pairs especially in heads and subheads.

What is kind of sad is that the cover illustrator is in fact very talented. Her online portfolio is impressive. But…I think she was very far out of her comfort zone on this. Which is a shame since it really does her no good at all to have stuff like this published.
