Not at all. I read it on her blog while she was snippeting it, read the Google Doc she set up for typo-hunters, and got it on KU the first week it was out. It’s an excellent book.
Might be better with having read things in her main series first, though.
I told her that the cover for Igor was on this site.
She said that she agreed with them, and that’s a cover that she needs to redo once she finds some art that grabs her.
Her books are excellent, (the reason I went looking for her blog was because she wasn’t publishing fast enough, đ) but her covers seem to be somewhat uneven.
Nathan, c’mon. She may have fantastic books, but the only reason you said it’s better in any way is due to this conversation. Otherwise, you know damned well that cover would have landed here eventually.
A novella about a cooking warrior? And we get Chef Boyardee in flames? No no no no no. Sorry, but no. I’m sorry that she doesn’t have access (?) to better covers, if he books are really good. Shame.
I find this a real poser. I mean, we have someone swearing that she can really write (hooray!) and we’re simultaneously looking at these covers. (sigh). Oh, but that I had a magic wand….
I’ve heard her name in other circles, always with praise for her writing. (Haven’t sampled yet.) And given some of the atrocities perpetrated on reissues of established authors’ back-catalogs that we’ve seen around here, we of all people should acknowledge the disconnect between “writing good/cover bad.”
“…we of all people should acknowledge the disconnect between âwriting good/cover bad.â
Sure. But without the brave souls that got past the covers in the first place, none of us would ever know that. Which brings us back to the point for this very site, as well. Just sayin’. I’ll shaddup now.
I like the title/author font. Save it for some blissful future era when the Alliance rebuilds.
And the font is one of the branding points for her series.
Looks similar to the font for the Doom video game.
It is.
It’s an excellent book. I heartily recommend reading it.
Jasini, are you messing with us?

That’s funny! I mean…interesting, not ha-ha-ha.
I actually love the title, but for a COMPLETELY different book. Gave me a rockin’ idea for another book entirely.
You should tell her that she’s stabbing her book in the heart with that cover, though. đ

I think this one is a good one, though.
Amazon.com: Cooking Hot (The Directorate Book 10) eBook : Uphoff, Pam: Kindle Store
That one’s… better in concept, but the execution is greatly lacking.

It IS better in concept — it’s much more intriguing than “generic pseudohuman against generic alien landscape, covered with text.”
But you’re also right: Had I encountered that cover anywhere but in this thread, it would definitely have become fodder for this site.
