Unfortunately, everyone involved in designing this cover already knew what it said, so no one TRIED TO READ IT.
So close…such a shame. Somebody, somewhere, somehow, some time, didn’t think about the title and byline; they saw the image, fell madly in love with it, and ignored how unreadable it would be IF IF IF they put the text over the image.
Author, think bars. It’s not wonderful, but you’re committing two unpardonable crimes here–you’ve ruint the image and you’ve made the title and byline unreadable. Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
Such an easy mistake to avoid.
First, get rid of most of the text. Title, Subtitle, and Byline only. Self-congratulations are even less effective when you can’t read them.
Second, add more space at the top (outer space, that is), and place the title there.
Third, byline at the bottom with a subtle shading backer, or add a gradient so the image gets darker toward the bottom to make the byline stand out.
