It’s a cute critter, but the cover has me in a crisis

I hope the critter eats the rest of the cover, starting with that boxy template and then the psychedelic grass shoots.

That classic template as used on this cover reminds me of an electric-powered “better mousetrap” I saw many years ago at a science fair.
There were two parallel spiked plates about a foot long with some bait at the end. When the mouse made it all the way to the bait and tripped a switch, the spiked plates would suddenly snap together on the mouse. I stuck a candy bar in there to trip the switch. The thing snapped shut–POW!–and just kept going POW, POW, POW, POW, POW, etc. There was no “off” switch.
So, I imagine there might be an unexpected (and very messy) crisis awaiting this critter.

I’ve seen that expression on my own guinea pigs. He is judging this author. So hard.
