Apparently, it took two illustrators to create this.
Whichever one did the owl apparently couldn’t decide if it was a screech owl or a great horned owl and decided on an unholy amalgam of both.
So, a scrawny owl?
Scary thought: what if this is the best of all possible worlds, and in every other parallel universe, this cover is worse?
I can’t figure out where the “best of all possible worlds” shtick came from, other than Ron, the hat-tippee. I mean, whut?
Look, I admire those who can draw, even only a bit, as much as the next guy, but DAAYYYAM. That doesn’t mean that the drawings should grace the cover of a book.
I was just in a Voltairean mood.
Y’know, I considered that…for a nanosecond, thought “nah, can’t be” and discarded it. I’ll know better next time. ha!
This must be the NEW cover. We’ve seen this book before. https://lousybookcovers.com/?p=1923196
OMG. Twice? This same book has been on here, TWICE? Now, that’s freaking speshul.
Dear author, if you see this: seriously, email me. I have the name of a fantastic, affordable illustrator–truly affordable–that could probably give you an amazing cover. I have no other affiliation beyond knowing her, I don’t get kickbacks or referral fees or commissions. Trust me, it’ll help enormously. She could CRUSH that wizard and owl combo. I send many of my authors that need illos to her, for that reason.
I doubt they will come to this site.
Not as a matter of habit, no, but many authors google their book titles to see if there’s any reaction out there (especially if their titles are distinctive, as this one is).
Right, what Nathan said. That’s what I was thinking when I wrote it.(They search their title, etc.)
I mean…I don’t have another path, that I know of, to reach out, but it slays me to see these covers when I know, factually, that there ARE illustrators out there that could do it a world of good. And in the affordable category, too!
