Apparently, the cover designer was told that this was Literary Fiction of the Most Important Type. And she (that’s gotta be a woman’s cover, just sayin’) followed through with a classic LitFic cover.
No other explanation. I mean, of all the dreck that we see here, that is the most inexplicable to me.

No, this kinda make sense. I mean, seems like FRANKENSTEIN would be into IKEA.
The really classy touch is that white (border? Underscore with blocks) under the word Frankenstein. I mean, that just pulls the entire ensemble together to make a compelling cover. (sigh).
