I couldn’t get the image to make any sense, for…gosh, I don’t know, a minute or so? I was totally focused on that eye, in the telescope lens and simply couldn’t make…well, heads or tails…of the rest of the image. And then, yes, I too thought they were legs, too (and had the same reaction you did!) but finally, I “saw” the image. Not exactly what you want as the reaction/result, for that 2-second glimpse that the average prospective buyer is going to have.
Another one of those “…but this happens in the novel…” cover mistakes.

Jeez, you sure are using the word “illustrated” loosely.
Little known fact: “I The Mutiny Papers” was Asimov’s working title for “I, Robot”
Mutiny Papers was not a lesser known Charles Dickens villain then?
Coincidentally, it’s also my stripper name.
Or possibly Miss Mutiny Papers, one corner of love triangle in a Jane Austen novel
Sounds like an assistant to a James Bond Villain. “Miss Mutiny Papers, bring me my cattle prod!”
Oh my gosh I thought those were LEGS for a hot minute and I can’t undo the horror
