Maybe the covers to child abuse memoirs are universally bad because no one wants to say ANYTHING critical.

When dealing with such a sensitive subject, it’s ridiculously easy to get somebody angry at you entirely by accident. Remember that one cover that accidentally associated heterochromiacs with pedophiles?
Given that I have a recessive heterochromia gene (I have a spot in my left eye that’s brown, in a pair of greeny-hazel eyes, mind you), yeah, that one was very off-putting.
If you think the cover is bad, the frontispiece illustration is just plain disturbing.
…and here it is.
Holy hell.
Oh, dear. I mean…did anyone LOOK at that?
Authors, if you’re going to write about such a sensitive and traumatic subject… please, PLEASE don’t do shizzle like this with your book cover.
