Skating on Thin Ice

Fun fact: Hockey skates have no shadow. Strange but true.

Why is Paul Bunyan dropping a skate on that nice little house?

As usual, a search at USA Today shows that the author apparently got her “best-selling author” tag like so many others do: by being among the many contributors to an anthology.

That ice skate boot looks like it is floating in front of him, hence no shadow.

I prefer to imagine a magical, flying skate zooming around the woods shouting, “Weeeeeee.”

Zat skate boot is clearly slung over his shoulder by the laces, with the other one dangling on his back, yet the botched perspective tells us it’s a cut-and-paste all the same. Either way, it ain’t smart flashing your chest like that in such weather.

You can easily tell it’s a cut-n-paste due to the angle of the skate and the utter lack of gravity acting thereupon. I mean, I defy you to hang a pair of men’s skates, particularly, (due to size/weight) over a shoulder and have the skate hang precisely like that. It just won’t. The angle of the load-bearing on the laces will tilt the bloody things, due to the fact that the laces aren’t centered on the CG of the damn skate.

(Sorry…didn’t mean to go all nerdy here. But that’s the dead giveaway.)
