In today’s installment of New Covers For Old 2021, none of the revised covers would have earned a place here at LBC. That’s really remarkable, considering.

Emma Beware—of this cover
Apocalypse—is there supposed to be a difference in the covers?
Lack of Jurisdiction—and a lack of design sensibility
Dragon—if I can’t even read the title…besides, where’s the dragon?
Her Discipline—nope
Freak God—It’s supposed to be a “Suspense and mythological fantasy mixed with sci-fi. In a remote and forgotten human colony in a remote solar system”??? Really?
Patty’s Potent Potion—and impotent cover
Tad’s Treasure—nope (and there are 12 of these?)
Spell Knights—OK. K-N-I-G-H-T-S. But so far as the cover is concerned, a halfway decent (only halfway mind you, but the idea is nice) illustration with awful typography.
Purgatory—I see that we have some branding going on here. Just as with Not Quite Eden, I like the design very much even if it might not be as informative as I might like—it is still dynamic and attractive. But I am unsure about splitting the word “Purgatory” into two lines.
“Purgatory” became “Purga Tory”, i.e. a British Conservative in a Siberian blizzard.
“[…]none of the revised covers would have earned a place here at LBC”.
Not even Spell Knights?
Not unless the hopper was empty.
The Freak Gods? You’re saying that the cover of The Freak Gods would not have earned a spot?
Vis: Spell Knights–that’s a nice piece of art utterly ruined by crappy typography–both times!
Not even Patty’s? or Tad’s? or Discipline? or Apocalypse? or Emma?
Okay, I probably would have cocked my head at the new FREAK GODS…
You must have lowered the standards!
Look at it this way: It probably signals to its intended audience perfectly that this book is for them. [shudder]
I would have thought that Freak God would have made it for the photobombing emoji alone.
