Fetish…maybe, “weird” Naaaah. There is an entire rich, robust, diverse community of fans for the plus size, “BBW” (Big Beautiful Women) form. As I say on my Facebook fan page “Not every female hero has to be a size zero”. I am a fan of the female who’s gender cannot be hidden with a simple hat and trench coat LOL.
There are levels in all things. It is my take that once we say fetish, we set that a playing field and by simple definition (the one I’m most familiar with in this context), refers to something of which, the lack of, is a deal breaker. The preference for a bigger woman (offend associated with larger breast and butt), rubenisk if you will, is a pretty mainstream fetish. Of which the line between fetish and preference is, ‘deal-breaker’ or ‘first choice’. As Hitch mentioned to Qui “BBW” is quite the well known and “fleshed out” (pun intended) fetish/preference. On the other hand there are those who MUST HAVE midgets and mayonnaise with their sexual relations, a little less heard of. 😀
I devoutly wish that the MALE author of this book was sentenced to walk around for a week with two 10-pound sacks of flour strapped to his chest and then see just how “ideal” it would be for some woman to voluntarily–voluntarily!–be so grossly distorted.Let’s see how he enjoys the backaches that so many “very” endowed women have to endure. Jackass. His female protagonist is a shape-shifter, who chooses to be a plus-size female with those grossly distorted breasts. Honestly, I really want to puke.
I wonder if all these “body positivity” and “fat shaming = bad” people are all going to take responsibility when an entire generation or two of people keel over from Diabetes and heart failure, not to mention other obesity-related diseases and fatalities?
I’m not even going to rant about the obesity, despite the fact that that’s an illness, not a lifestyle choice. It’s the engorged BOOBS that I wish on this MALE author. I’d love to see how quickly he’d embrace those after wearing them for a week.
As someone with bigger boobs and plus size, this book made me feel better to see the main character not only plus size, but seen as “hot” from the getgo. No waiting for her to find he prince to feel pretty.
Sydnee, with all due respect, how can she be considered “hot,” unless she is considered so by her ‘prince’? (or her female lover if she’s gay, etc.).
I mean…hot is an adjective, effectively, describing how someone else sees you. That you are desirable to other people–right? You’re not all hot over yourself. You’re hot to other people.
So your sentence about “not waiting for her to find he[r] prince to feel pretty” is directly contradicted by the whole “she’s hot” thing.
If you like the cover and it makes you feel better, then great. I’m talking about the reality of obesity, having lost one family member to it and on the verge of losing another. Acceptance and positivity are all very well and good, but encouraging people to effectively kill themselves is something else altogether.
I feel the illustration, reflects a us size women like myself who is top & bottom heavy and there is nothing gross about me! To me it is showing that it is okay to be plus size and have a body. No every one is an “A’ cup, some are a ‘G’ I commend the author for taking this risk. I have yet to see anything like it. As the saying goes, “Never judge a book by its cover!” So, I say buy the book and take a look inside. Going to go get my copy now & see what the hype is really about!
For your benefit, you should be aware that there is an entire category of BBW books available on Amazon. Typically in the romance category, but in other categories as well. If you have not previously seen this, then you might find searching by BBW useful on Amazon and other eBook retailers.
Thanks for you vote of confidence. I’m not the best at illustration but I enjoy it. This is however a stab at inclusion of plus size female leads in sci-fi.
OH MY GOD! Thank-You! I am so flattered my book is the center of this discussion! Quick note about me, I’m not hungry. I’m not a big box shift lead looking to change my life. I’m a software engineer, so I get paid for something I have been doing for fun since I was 12 for free. That said, this is all just fun for me. I hope I write better than I draw LOL, but HEY as long as I’m having fun right!
@Joho: OK, interesting
@Girllin: IKR! Still Under a 1000 sells but its moving
@Hitch: Wow, deep. As an armature photographer too, I have quite the collection of subjects built like my main characters. I’m not really artistically talented, but I consider myself competent. I’m sorry you find them “gross”. Honestly I find breast smaller than mine (and I’m ex football fat) gross.
@Ian: Yes! there is other illustrations in my book. I have gotten better in the two years I have been doing this. SO MUCH FUN!
THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Well, I don’t know, we need to give every book an opportunity…
*sees the blurb…*
Nani?!
A blurb so bad, it makes El Cochinote start speaking Japanese.
Screw the blurb. The drawings are freaking disgusting.
I imagine the illustrations reflect some kind of weird fetish.

Fetishes are weird for people who are not into it.

Nani?
Firefly “Heart of Gold” Nani?
No-no!
Is “Animae” supposed to be “Anime” or the plural of “Anima.”

But… but… body positivity!

Grossly distorted breast? Are you suggesting women of that size are Grossly distorted?
The way that those toons are drawn? Yes, those toons are grossly distorted.

I’ll be truly disappointed if this is related to anime…
Maybe it simply means kind of what it sounds like–the plural of anima, the soul/ego. Don’t blame me, blame Jung.
But **SEVEN** 5-star reviews!
Sumhuw, this makes me think of all those big-badonkadonked cave paintings in South Africa.
なに? Nani? this is supposed to be a light novel that means there are illustrations of the save level of “quality” in this book. Let that sink in.
