Lightning strikes towards the ground, not upwards. So I choose to believe that this grey-haired kid… person… is plunging towards the Earth through a layer of lower clouds, and is a few seconds from splattering death.
“Oh, yes, I’m the Great Ascender, woo-ooo,
I ride lightning bolts, to the sky…ooo—wooo-ooo,
My knees are such that I ride too much,
On my way into the storm-ridd’n sky….”

Lightning strikes towards the ground, not upwards. So I choose to believe that this grey-haired kid… person… is plunging towards the Earth through a layer of lower clouds, and is a few seconds from splattering death.
NOAA’s website says that it can go either way: there’s both cloud-to-ground and ground-to-cloud lightning.
Not that that makes this cover any better, but I figured I could share the fun fact for the day.
