Luger Remington P.I.: Surviving Eminent Danger

Luger Remington P.I.: Surviving Eminent Danger

I found the author’s website. He’s just so proud of doing his own covers…

Luger Remington. When a gun enthusiast just can’t make up his mind. Still, sounds better than Colt Bushmaster, I guess

I often thought a merger of Mannlicher and Bushmaster would be intriguing.

EMINENT danger? EMINENT? What, his danger was of imposing height? It was socially superior? Renown? ACK!

Kill me now and while I’m dying, let me burn down Dorrance. Please. They couldn’t even tell him it was Imminent? Sweet Jesus, talking about take the money and run…

What precisely does this “Dorrance” company do? It’s not covers apparently. Based on the “Look Inside,” it clearly isn’t typesetting and formatting (or at least not competent typesetting and formatting). What are they contributing to the process here?

That IS what it does, purportedly! https://www.dorrancepublishing.com/ (Now, the LBC site will explode, from the shame of having a link to Dorrance on it…)

Oh, hey, check this book out! I can’t quite put my finger on it, but something about that book’s cover just looks wrong somehow…

OH MY GOD! Didn’t ANYONE take a step back and LOOK at that? I’m…I’m traumatized. This site has finally, finally done it. I’m never going to be the same.

Jesus wept.

He’s looking in a mirror and imagining himself all growed up?
He swiped a mirror from a carnival funhouse?

Yeah, this is like a few covers earlier criticized at LBC: it looks like pedophilia, and should not have been approved for pub.

I feel like

Love Covers
All Wrongs

could practically be a mascot for this site.

It’a a vanity press. But not one of ASI’s imprints. They’re based in PA. I got a lot of junk phone calls from them after I registered a copyright for a book. They were scaping contact info from my registration. No other way they could have gotten my phone number. Eventually, they stopped calling.

Dorrance has a reputation of scanning the (c) registration list for unpublished works and offering their “help”.
Which is basically doing for asporing authors what the author could do for themselves for very less through other self-publishing services.
Publishing fees reported by Dorrance and its customers can run from $2,400 to $18,000 for a book. Author complaints often state they had no idea what the end charges were going to be.

Noooo, don’t die on us Hitch! It’s not worth it to take down Dorrance – there are so many others of their ilk. I’m sure “cover/title review” was an upcharge – or maybe they didn’t know either.

Yes, but seriously? I mean, we’re not a publishing house or subs. publisher–we’re just workin’ slobs–but even I would tell an author of a boner (in the traditional sense of the word) like that. Or when I get ms’s that say “forward” instead of Foreword. I mean, Dorrance, have you no decency?

And I’m guessing the answer would be: “Nope – not a shred of decency!”
