I like what they did with the flag, particularly since it started out very plain. I’m not sure the Skull and Crossbones is indicative of ‘modern’ pirates, however.

Stabs in the dark are easier than creating imagery that ties into a story without being too specific. I still don’t know why the baseball and bulldozer work but the ghost face doesn’t.
Because the ghost face isn’t identifiable. The hat doesn’t work. It’s important to YOU, but it doesn’t say bupkus about the story. It could be ANYTHING. Ghost, dream, goblin…as an image, BL, it simply didn’t work, period. The only person who liked it, at ALL, for anything, was you. It’s not more complicated than that.

I’ll never understand why so many cover creators are timid with their lettering.
Dunno and yes, I think it’s easier for you to be objective for others, obviously. 🙂

You can’t say that and still be civil? My push-back wasn’t due to the criticism, it was due to the way the criticism was presented.
