When I had cataract surgery, I admitted to the anesthesiologist I had a drink of water before surgery; she refused to administer general anesthesia, so the clouded lens was removed and replaced with a synthetic lens under local anesthesia, fully awake and aware. This cover brings back memories.
So, I can assume that the designer had some unsuccessful eye surgery that left him permanently and seriously visually impaired? Surely no person with healthy eyes would think this looks good.
Weird. Once I had stitches in my eye under local anesthesia (after a laser surgery under general anesthesia). But all I saw was the ophthalmologist coming at my eye with a needle. Although I think that was still better than the image above…
I didn’t mean that you were left with a damaged vision. My father had the same procedure recently and his eye is just fine now. But this cover looks like it was made by someone whose lens was removed by an absent-minded surgeon who forgot to put the artificial lens in.
I tried to figure out what it was when I first saw it. It looked like it might be a face there but something was off. When I looked at it again–it could’ve been because it was 6am and I was half asleep–I finally saw it. It’s two people kissing.
Don’t you just love these “optical illusions” covers? You can have days of fun just staring at them and trying to figure out what the images are supposed to represent. You don’t even have to read the book to amuse yourself with it.
Is this how an acid trip looks like? In that case, DO NOT WANT.
I’d add seizure risk, but maybe that’s just me. I get queasy just by looking at it.
My guess would be this is what detached retina looks like.

Ugh, sounds unpleasant.

Have you ever seen the visions of Ray Milland in “X” – the Man with the X-Ray Eyes?
Unfortunately, no :(. Or maybe fortunately?
I am speaking of what I saw as they removed the old lens and inserted the new. (My eyesight was restored to better than it was when I was twelve.)

Precisely.
Well, the kanji is appropriate.
Brilliant! I wonder of that was intentional?
Counting the kanji, there are at least 5 different fonts on this PoC.
And yet it still deserves a “font boredom” tag.
Just… no.
WHAT THE HELL AM I LOOKING AT???
Does anyone see that face in the purple and pink blob or is it just me.
That happens when you overindulge in lousy book covers. Faces come out of the rain. (I see two faces, but I’ve been here awhile.)
Now that you mention it, invader, yes.

Do you see the gray hairy tarantula? Or is that just my arachnophobia?
That’s just you, I’m afraid.

I thought it was one of these make-up jobs as soon as I saw it.
