The same old story: Paid for good artwork (I hope), with no idea what to do with it.
The art is awesome. Why the heck did they decide to cover it with that ugly font in that ugly color? Like, who looks at that and says “Nailed it!”
I’ve seen that image on Deviant Art. I don’t think he bought it, just scrapped it off the website. Shame.
I spoke to the author since I saw it on Deviant Art as well and he let me know it was a temp cover until his actual cover was ready.
Does that matter? Maybe someone here who’s more experienced in the law than I am can clarify, but I didn’t think there was an exception in copyright law along the lines of, “It’s fine to steal something as long as you only use it for a short time as a placeholder.”
(And it’s been 6 months since it was published; that feels like a long time for a “temporary” cover).
