If it weren’t for the title, I think I would have assumed the same thing Nathan.

…oh my goodness, who would design a cover like this one for a book like The Brothers Karamazov, and did they know what they were doing? If so……why?! It’s just so inappropriate that it’s almost surreal.
Whomever did this cover–if they knew it was for TBK–certainly never read the novel. (Or even Cliff’s Notes, Wikipedia, etc.) This clearly isn’t Dmitri and either Ivan or Alexei (or Pavel); it’s not Ivan and Alexei. It damn sure ain’t Pavel and anyone. I mean. which pair of the three (four) bothers would ever be in this position? It’s…it’s like Grackle’s comment, it’s surreal.
“Illustrated Platinum Edition?” Somebody did an ILLUSTRATED version of TBK? I swear, my head is going to swivel off my neck, at this rate. Unfreakingbelievable!
OMFG! In between the first and second chapters, on Amazon, is an “illustration” of American Indians! American Indians, on horseback, in front of teepee-style tents! WT-holy-F??? In between the 4th and 5th, is what appears to be…Japanese artwork, two ladies, one seated at a small organ, playing music, the other singing? What the holy HELL is happening with this book?
This is heinous. The paragraphs have no first-line indent, so the chapters are WALLS of text, and the so-called “illustrations” have NO relevance, at ALL, to TBK. I’m all for someone making a buck, and I don’t object to people republishing PD content IF, IF, IF they actually add value, like analysis, whatever, but that’s obscene. It’s so jaded as to be mind-blowingly so. I reported it to Amazon; this should be yanked so fast it makes your damn head swim. There are plenty of legit copies available.
Scrolling through the Look Inside! there is a painting of ladies by the shore that is used twice.
I suspect the text was probably a public domain transcript downloaded with textual problems that would make a scholar scream. And random illustrations The Rippov edition of Dostoyevsky. “Delux Platinum”. Sick humor.
I’m not big on being The Tattletale Version of myself, but…that’s obscene, and it shouldn’t stand. I reported it to them and told them that they should be ashamed of themselves for letting some azzhole get away with selling that as if they’d added any “value” to it (per Amazon’s T&C for publishing PD content). How on EARTH did nobody notice the cruft in that mess? What, the block-style paragraphs weren’t enough of a tip-off? OY!!
This thing was like an horrific car wreck…you start looking and the longer you look, the worse it became.

As this is not the result of an independent, self-published author; it is therefore the result of more than one person, thinking it was a good idea. Let that sink in for a moment.

Amazon actually sent me an email yesterday hawking this thing.

Where’s the third brother?
PS. Given that this is a stock photo of two laughing guys, I think this cover can be described quite accurately as a “laughing stock”.
