I assume this is the story of the kid from The Boondocks and his girlfriend growing up and getting trapped in a 1980s videogame where Archie has to show them how to defeat the Boss, who is a disembodied face.
“Get Out, you damned crappy lettering!” It’s the modern Indy bookcover version of “Out, damned spot!”
Honestly, what was she thinking? The characters aren’t godawful, but what’s the floaty invisi-face with the red dreads? Over the vaseline-lensed smeary castle?
The kids are passable, but the rest is just horrible. I guess this is another one of those mockups that never made it to the designer. It might have been decent if done right. Still, I’m not sure if having a character that’s angrily pointing at something while looking at god-knows-who off screen is the way to go. What’s the kid trying to say exactly?
Or is he looking at the eyes? I can’t tell where the floating eyes are. Are they looking at the eyes and pointing to the castle, or looking at someone off screen and pointing to the eyes? I’m even more confused now.
“Marco, Carla, and their friend Sammie, have played at the castle many times without seeing anything, but when people start going missing the castle is where the town’s people cast their sights.”
The eyes represent the town’s people sights, and the kid is helping them cast those sights at the castle. So simple.

I can just picture the fallowing, by looking that the kid who is pointing.
“Bad evil eyes, go to your room and think about what you have done!”
The evil eyes make a pouting look, and sink way to the castle tower to sulk.

“The Adventures of Marco and Carla…but forget you, third kid! You stink!”
And her name is SHAMARAHS.DAVIS
When there isn’t a spacebar you need to use drastic measures.
Can you imagine an entire book written like this cover?
Itwasthebestoftimes,itwastheworstoftimes,…
or like this?
It.was.the.best.of.times,.it.was.the.worst.or.times,….
I’d prefer the second one, it has a certain horrible charm to it.
The adventures of Marco and Carla and… that other guy there.
Someone needs some Visine.
I guess the couldn’t fit the more accurate phrase:
THEOUTOFFOCUSCASTLE

Is that Skeletor in Red?
He is my spiritual guide and master.
Everything he says speaks to me.
Damn. Now I want to watch some He-Man, but I’m on data plan only and can’t afford to waste it and my disk with all the episodes burned a while ago :'(
Even the kid in the cover is outraged by the crappy artwork.

I guess I’m old. I just don’t get it.

Zoot has left on the grail-shaped beacon again.
Bad, awful, naughty Zoot!
