HOLY COW I got blindsided by a COMPLETELY different story when I read the taglines. That was not what I was expecting from that picture, title, and title font.
Whiplash for your potential readers.
From the title and art, I would’ve guessed a girl and her dog kinda story, or some whimsical child’s realistic fiction like “Bridge to Terabithia.” From the taglines, I guessed it explores cases of all kinds of child abuse. From the blurb, it’s one woman’s story.
It seriously needs a different font (this one is hard to read, anyway) and a new image. Something that better communicates a vulnerable memoir.
The best advice is always: Look at other books that you expect to appeal to the same readers, and see how their covers are designed — what common imagery, fonts, color schemes, etc. they employ. That’s how your target audience is used to being attracted.
(Also, make sure the text on your cover is legible.)

Thanks for the feedback! I have to admit that my book cover needs work. Any more suggestions?
