Is the rat supposed to have leaped from the wall and onto the title?
I like the background image, and think the silhouette could have worked with it, but the footprints give the impression that the rat is hovering in midair.

Ratpaths (Tales of Istonnia Book 1) by Angelika Rust was preceded at LBC by A Rat for a Rat (Tales of Istonnia Book 2). But there is more: Once A Rat (Tales of Istonnia Book 3).
Elements in common for the series covers: the same black silhouette of a levitating rat imposed on different rusty colored cityscapes (on Book Two’s cover a silhouette-bombing wolfie). What’s missing is a clue to the casual browser that they are part of a series.
I actually don’t mind the cover TOO much. The only thing that sticks out to me is I’m confused if the rat silhouette is part of the background, or the title.
Looking at all three covers, it begins to make sense to me to see the rat silhouette as part of the title credits (like a series logo) rather than as part of the background. Yes, it’s confusing and I could be wrong.
It’s a part of the title (the other 2 volumes in the series have the same silhouette overlapping them in the same way), but having the rat tracks end halfway up the wall obfuscate that. Then again, the tracks go across the byline rather than being covered by it, so perhaps we’re supposed to see the whole thing as being fully integrated rather than distinguishing credits from background.

I think the rat might be trying to nibble the title. Another one with an interesting concept idea but terrible execution.

Nobody gives a rat’s a** about this cover fail!
