I actually kinda like the way the kid is drawn. It’s simple but I like it. If the rest of the cover were drawn with similar lines, AND the author had picked a more appropriate font, it would’ve been fine.
The mixing of cartoon figures with photographed backgrounds (or cartoon backgrounds with photographed figures) seldom works. One style usually works best.
