Yes, well, you see, this cheap necklace is charmed so that it won’t throw a shadow.

At least, that’s my best guess. This explanation probably didn’t occur to the author.

Vertical text + squirrely font + Wordart and fill effects + shadowing + Illegible Author Name.

Hiding for a reason?

Strike 1: Word art.
Strike 2: Aforementioned shadow issue.
Strike 3: MT Curlz.

Ack, that author’s name is very hard to read.

Also, why do some indie authors feel the need to put “by” before their names? That’s OK when you’re writing a kid’s book, but when you’re writing a legitimate novel…

Ah – there’s your mistake. These are illegitimate.

I am amazed at how perfectly symmetrical the tresses and hairs on the left and right sides of her part are. In fact, the girl’s face is perfectly symmetrical. (Any one remember the old trick of mirror imaging the left and right sides of real people’s faces and getting Jeckyll and Hyde images?) If this were a sci-fi novel about a cloneworld that would be a cover that would slowly creep up on you.

The author was no doubt hoping that by mirror imaging one side of her face, no one would recognize the stock photo used.

It looks really creepy… the hair gives it away, but even without it the modified face just looks wrong.

Nice catch, Tia! (Anyone else notice that the…would that be, half-a-cover model?, looks vaguely like the formerly-svelte Alyssa Milano…star of the series, Charmed?)

Inadvertent? Methinks not.
