I’ve lost count of the amount of things this author clearly doesn’t know about chickens

My maternal grandma kept chickens. My mother-in-law kept her parents’ free-range flock. I’ve fed chickens, I’ve known chickens, I’ve seen them poop. People, that’s no chicken poop.
I’ve have seen things I wouldn’t believe. Chickens flying as high as my head for ten yards. A decapitated chicken running about til it died. Memories that’ll be lost in time, when I die.
But brown chicken poop? Really?
H.P. Lovecraft advised that, in writing supernatural horror or science fiction, the real elements must be as real as the writer’s experience or research can make it, if you want your audience to willingly suspend disbelief and accept the fantastic elements of the story.

This cover lost me at brown chicken poop.
How does this sell but The Catstone Family doesn’t?
I have to agree with black chicken on this poop-worthy cover.
