In the other books in the series, on the covers, one plane has its wheels down over water with no runway in sight, and the other cover has a highly pixellated image of what might be a plane or else a missile.

We’ve seen earlier book 5 in the series. Seems she has a book 1, a first sequel, a book 3, and a book 5. No book 4. Nathan may well choose some of those other covers to feature on this site.

To hold all those people that plane must have been built by the company that makes clown cars.
Or if the pixelation at hi res is a clue, the plane was cut and paste out of proportion.
To be fair (in reply to David and B.L.) – looks like a “ground stop” IS a thing in the aviation biz (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ground_stop) so it makes sense that a plane’s that’s been subjected to this is “ground stopped”.
Wow, I never know that Bill Rebane designed book covers. Learn something new every day.
So what would have happened if the ground had not stopped? Where would the plane be then?

I like my first theory, because … snarky.
[The edit feature works! Oh, joy!]
‘Souls On Board’ abbreviates to SOB, which is what I do when I look at this cover.

That’s great if your target audience is exclusively within the aviation industry.
