That original is weird proportions (7 x 12) to me.
Making the circle round gives it the aspect of a CD cover which some ebook covers do use.
I used paint to dummy a std 6×9 proportioned cover, art in low middle, title above, byline below, because at least it looks like a dead tree book cover and I have too much time on my hands.

Yeah, but at least it doesn’t look like you took a photo of your dragon, copied it with Silly Putty and stretched it to make her look taller. I mean, hell, if you have a short dragon, be proud of her just as she is. She don’t need to be no stinkin’ giant dragoness. It’s clearly Dragon Sizeism.

Fixing the dragon circle squishes the text, so it’s not so much fixed as just changed the problem.
