Legitimate non-joke question: Is that eye-jarring effect supposed to be cool? Is it an “artistic” decision? I mean, it doesn’t work, but I can totally see where someone might think it might look neat. I’ve seen a million and one premade covers with a simple photo with an “effect.”

This could have been passable with a different font and none of the retro-windows95-MSpaint-8bit filtering.
…and he really shouldn’t have the byline and the title in the same text block and the same style at the top, and then the lead character’s name in a different block at the bottom; it’s very confusing.
