This could’ve worked if the text wasn’t placed on top of the image.

The artsy border around the image is weird for a science/medicine book.
First blush. The cover is good because it is a surprise. The border might be a bit too “fluffy” the problem is the author wrote a medical paper and named the book the same way. Problem as I see it – TITLE! You are not presenting to the AMA. Otherwise I think it grabs attention and isn’t that the purpose of the cover?
Yeah, the typography on the book is the real issue, I think.
The illustration is gorgeous. I would put it on my wall. Don’t hide it with the title.
