The lighting doesn’t quite work. It should be more obvious there’s an intense localized light source coming from the sword. Needs to be played with, but otherwise I like the art. It’s right for the genre. The text on the other hand. Isn’t that papyrus? Mmm, the title needs something more substantial I think. Heavier but not too.
I agree, Lydia. The art’s both likeable and genre-appropriate. The lens-flare effect is too much but it’s something that could be fixed, toned down.
This needs some medieval-esque font, not too fancy but more ancient looking. The type also needs to be used as a design element and balanced with other aspects of the imagery. Centered, sort of balanced over the lady’s head is just dull and awkward. And I nearly missed the teeny-tiny author name there, hiding among the gown’s folds.
I thought that was just how she was taught to carry a sword. “Lead with your chest dear. It will distract your opponent and give you the perfect balance for fighting uphill.”

Are they stabbing that poor tree? Furthermore where are the said ruins?
I can’t tell you how pleased I was to find that my book was being discussed in a forum, even though you forego conventional wisdom and literally judged it by its cover. LOL
In any case, I forwarded this page to all of my friends. It’s “almost” like making it into the big time, because I now finally have critics. Well, kind of. Thanks for the wonderful entertainment.
Thanks, Doug. Please note that we did not judge the book by its cover — we judged the cover itself. (Also, please see this page: Judging Books By Their Covers.
Princess Bride. One of my all time favorite movies! 😉

To so rudely critique someone’s hard work without just cause is uncalled for. That man put his heart and soul into every aspect of that book, including the artwork, and NONE of you can find ONE single silver lining?!?!? I pray none of you have procreated….that way the hatred and discrimination will die when you do.
Hi, Nunya. First time on the internet, huh? You’ll notice that the author himself took this criticism (which is pretty light for this site) in good humor; what call do you have to whip yourself into high dudgeon and call us to repentance?
Ah, well — my four children and I are laughing at you.
That side of my family are the nice, polite ones. Of course he’s going to take it lightly, you don’t piss off your potential readers. My Italian side however….we don’t care who we piss off. And when your four children get shot for saying something rude to the wrong person, I WILL BE THE ONE LAUGHING.
New tag: Gratuitous Lens Flare?

Yes, exactly.
P apyrus font however, is not anything appropriate, genre or otherwise.
In Kingdom of Chayim, gravity pulls uphill.

Looks like her lightsword needs new batteries.

Ah, true indeed. Thanks for the clarification. In any case, it was an honor. 🙂

My daughters would laugh too, but they are too busy worshiping SATAN!

Wow. Okay, I officially declare you an ass. And a banned ass, to boot.
That got nasty real fast. Wow. Adieu, ass!
Wow is right. I hope Nunya doesn’t really plan on killing people for being rude.
I know – I’m a terrible person.

I try to keep this in mind also when looking at my own genuine work.
