It bugs me that the author’s name is the only thing not centered…

Some decent font and better placement of them might make it work. It would still be on the boring side, but at least it wouldn’t be ugly.

I don’t mind the minimalism at all. But dear God, the layout! The byline is so in the wrong place it seems almost calculated to annoy.

Many Best Sellers have had very little for cover, ever hear of Catch 22 by Heller, I got it right next to my computer and all the cover says is Catch 22 in red and the background all white…you guys really really need to bone up on your book selling history….
Actually I would judge this cover better vs. Catch 22…but let’s admit, people started reading Catch 22 because the word of mouth about the book itself, not the cover. Imagine someone like you criticizing the Catch 22 cover back in the day when it came out? You would’ve been laughed off the earth. I’m laughing…

Yes, minimalism can be very effective. When done competently.
