Sticks & Stones

Most of this cover is fairly competent — except for the centerpiece.

And the fact that her right hand is attached to the left side of her body.

Something that a lot of people fail to understand is that you can’t simply paste something onto another picture and have it look right. A basic art composition class will tell you that for a picture to be good, all objects need to have the same light source or they won’t fit. That’s what I notice most with this site; these people don’t understand such basics as perspective and light source.

Also, what’s with the chick’s coloration? She needs to get that gray skin looked at.

Sad. The type is handled well–damn well, esp. compared to most others Nathan posts for our consumption. And the background image, for a photo is nicely composed with the fad to black up top and all, nice spooky vibe without looking at all snapshotty. But, yeah, the way the woman-image is handled is all wrong. From her coloring to positioning of that oddly place hand that’s either reaching across her body or sewn on the wrong Frankenstein arm. I’m *guessing* her coloring is due to her being a ghost or spirit or something but that’s not working at all. Plus she’s out of focus and that makes me headachy.

I can’t believe how petty and mean-spirited this site has become. It used to be a cover would get useful responses like, “looks like crap!” or “BARFO!”

But these long-winded comments that seem to offer insightful and even helpful hints are just outright uncalled for.

If you people would quit sitting on your butts on your parents’ couches smoking the devil’s weed in your parents’ basement spouting out poison about “spooky vibes,” “coloring,” or “light sources,” then we might get some REAL comments on this website!

I think the assumption is that her back is to the viewer and it isn’t. Her body is facing to the viewer’s left, but her head is turned to her right–notice the ligament in her neck. If her skin tone wasn’t so washed out it would be more noticeable.

OH! Now the hand makes sense. Yeah, that’s not clear at ALL.

I still don’t think heads turn quite like that (unless maybe you’re a Photoshopped ghost).

With a broken neck. Hence the “ghost” part!

At first I thought that this cover was showing an unusual degree of planning-ahead. The Hand logically belongs to the person/zombie/ghost standing to the left, and since there’s always a series of these things, that would be on the cover of Volume I. The two covers placed side-by-side would form a larger image with the rest of the spooky tree, too. And when the third volume is finished, it would go on the right, and so on with subsequent volumes (prequels, of course, go on the left), to eventually form a 360-degree panorama.

However, the cover of Volume I is not contiguous.

My bad.

I’d like it if the girl simply weren’t there.
