What part? The lion? The wrong era ship? The clinch? The inappropriate clothing? Or the bad collage? Romantic covers should be well designed just like any other genre.
Well, I guess I’m just thinking of the overall composition. Not trying to diss romance, just not as knowledgeable about ship design. And compared to most of the werewolf covers we’ve seen, the lion was relatively well-done. IMHO as usual.
So close. As a Viking romance cover, this author almost nailed it. Take out the lion, undo the head fade on the characters, make the author and title ‘better’, and this cover wouldn’t belong on this site. Too bad.
“I dreamt of a big dog, like really big, and this ship… which had like no oars and many sails, trippy, yeah? Never seen anything like it. Well, there was this wench with like some silk but mostly naked, and it was all good but then I realised SOMEONE HAD SHAVED my BEARD off! And then my wife woke me up, sheesh, never eat those mushrooms again.”
Since Vikings traded with Byzantium, some of them might have come across silk, still not exactly keeping with the era.
I had heard of the Roaring Forties but I had no idea they came from an actual lion!
And in his desperate dream, the Viking was haunted by visions of a three-masted schooner from a thousand years in the future.
And wenches wearing silk gowns. There’s not a thing about this that says Viking. Blech.
I think you win the prize for today’s best comment. I thought that ship was a little anachronistic.
The title is hard to read. Though I think the illustration is appropriate for the genre.

Nope. Nothing here is correct for the setting.
Except the sea.

Only if he plays football for the Minnesota Vikings, and his dream has already been to sail a schooner…with a lion.
Oops, that was supposed be “always”, not “already”
History: research it before you design a cover for a period piece. Unless viking is a metaphor or something.
Yeah um, where’s the Viking?
Perhaps the author is an aspiring Viking?
And I hope that’s not ‘side-boob’ that lady’s flashing, ’cause I understand Amazon have just recently banned that now…
Hello? That’s not a Viking longship. That sailing ship is centuries ahead of the Viking Era. History Fail… among other boo-boos. 😛
