In Tuscany the moon is vaguely octagonal and can be seen perfectly through fog.
Where did they find that lovely moon-ball that contrasts so beautifully with the jaundiced sky?

I assume this is some kind of sci-fi novel and that gray thing floating among the trees is a probe hunting for the protagonist. Either that, or the cover creator has never been outside and seen the actual moon we currently have in our night skies.
