Nope. No mayhem impending. Move along.

While I’ll grant that the tree’s branches and roots convey a sense of chaos, this is something that takes years, if not decades. Trees neither imply “minutes” nor “mayhem”. With respect to time and energy, trees convey a sense of calm and tranquility, just the opposite of this book’s title.

The tree seems to have found its special purpose.* The mayhem should be finished shortly (as tree-minutes go).

* Apologies to Steve Martin.

I thought it said “Minutes of Them”. But no, no “Them”, just tree. Lots of tree.

Maybe the them are off somewhere else commiting the mayhem.

‘Minutes of Them’ sounds like a more compelling title.

Especially since I always associate ‘Them’ with giant ants. Why are they in such a rush? I need to know now!

The photo of the tree is cool, cos it’s a cool, really cool, old tree. Does it make good cover art? No.

For one thing, the color’s washed out, partly because it’s just a low-contrast, gray-brown scene.

For another, it’s just some dude’s snapshot. So what?

Finally, there’s that missing mayhem issue. Or maybe there’s an ant colony under those roots and they’re preparing for war against the termites at the next tree? Yes, that must be it.

Another ‘by’ line.
Makes me twitch.

Yes. It’s not like some random stranger will be able to get their name in the cover. “By” is assumed, all you authors.

Minutes of a meeting? Only way I can explain the dull. Mayhem is probably a sewing club.

And during the meeting they all sing their sewing club anthem, “You May, You May, Hem Them!”

Sorry I couldn’t resist.

I’ll hazard that, if I read the book, I would realize in retrospect the meaning of the tree. Or maybe not.

Book covers are about creating first impressions: conveying at a glance what the book is about to a potential reader.
