maybe the “homecoming” was to their home planet, where the gravity is much stronger than our own. it’s not a badly squashed image, that’s just what people from their world look like!

The basic image is acceptable for prob a romance novel however it should have been cropped and not squashed. keep for the most part the two peoples faces etc
As well the text on the page needs to stand out more
It works better when you tilt a horizontalimage on its side rather than squashing a horizontal image into the shape of a vertical one for your book cover.
