Those look to me like Smoker’s Posts (aka Buttsnuffers).
But yeah, they do look like someone cropped the tops off lampposts during cut’n’paste.
Given this is lousy book covers, that’s always a possibility.
It’s because the black, um, I’d say shadow, but that’s not what it is, the black blur behind the byline is so unfortunately placed that it covers the tops of the poles and makes it look like they’re cut-off light posts.
Really, this is not so terrible. At last, we have a cover where it’s obvious what the story is about. Pretty girl, buff boy and a mysterious mansion.
Be careful, dude! See what happened to those other folks who tried to walk across there?
