From His Smashwords interview:

“*How do you approach cover design?*

Originally I used an agent, but with more recent e-books I’ve enjoyed trying to create my own with more than a little help from friends / family plus an occasional model. It has to be cost effective. The cover is the first selling point, has to be attractive, eye-catching and reflect a part of the story.”

He clearly did not listen to his own advice.

She doesn’t drink decaf, but isn’t that wine in her hand? What’s with the small/medium/large women in the spiral notebook? Is this about weight loss? Could she be pondering how she can drink wine and lose weight all in one thought?

Only if the wine has caffeine.

She only drinks green-bottle Buckfast.

He forgot to take the original cover concept off the final product! What a mistake.

While the photo of the model is the one decent aspect of this cover (though “thoughtful pose” doesn’t really work here), I don’t see how it’s appropriate given the title of this book. She could be used for “I don’t drink beer” or “I only drink red wine”.

You’re right. I’m assuming that he uses stock images, and it isn’t hard to find one of a beautiful woman with a coffee. For example, this one:

None of it makes sense. Fine, it’s a decent pic of the model, but her expression is wrong, and she’s drinking wine when the ‘decaf’ implies she should be drinking proper coffee and then my brain starts screaming at me to stop because it doesn’t. Make. Any. Sense!

“her expression is wrong”

She’s looking at whatever is being concealed behind the concept art.

Actually, she’s looking up at the ceiling.

She’s demonstrating self-control by keeping the title balanced on her head instead of guzzling the booze.

So that explains why the title is so low: It’s resting on her head!

Toss the notebook, change the font, cover would look nice. Then there is just the issue of the caffeine vs. alcohol confusion…

Oh, the poor thing, with that Smashwords interview where he admits that he hasn’t sold anything, and yet he’s posted 6 books. Someone has to tell him.
