Again: What the hell is wrong with people who think, “Yup, this looks perfect,” and publish it?

What? It still looks better than the elven vampire. Yes, it’s a mesh up of several different photographs with several different drawing styles, but at least I can see what’s on it. That elven vampire, however, that’s where I really want to know what the author was thinking. Not saying this is a great cover, but I kinda see why the creator might think it is.

It is too soon James. Too soon.

In fact, I think it will always be too soon to make jokes about the handicapped.

That’s just personal preference though. 🙂

It makes me want to weep. I mean it. Here this publisher had this PERFECTLY GOOD artwork (the cloud-bound castly-structure and that terrific horse) and just slapped DREADFUL fonts on it…and, seriously, WT HELL, was s/he thinking, when s/he slapped those cartoon characters on it? Really???? They took a really good starting place, and just stabbed it right in the heart.

OTOH, I really want to know who did that artwork. I think I want to list that person for my fantasy/sci-fi clients.

I might be wrong, but I think the horse is a photo. The mane and the tail are digital, though. The clouds and the rock are photos as well, but they’re nicely done. The sunlight rays effect is just gorgeous. The castle needs to be fleshed out more to fit in, but overall, without the two cartoony figures it would be a passable cover. Charming even.

P.S.: if anyone buys this book for their kid(s), would you kindly tell me who the cover artist (background image, I mean), is? I’m always adding cover folk to my list, and I’d like to add him/her for my fantasy clients. Tx. The credits for this are not in the book’s frontmatter, so…if you do, pls. let me know. TKS!
