Has NBC trademarked “Grimm” for TV usage and tie-ins? Does this story use characters, memes or locales originally developed for the NBC Grimm universe? Oh, the perils of fan fic! Between black and white, so many shades of grey!
Not possible. I mean, GRIMM? As in the Tales? Sheesh. Even NBC wouldn’t be that hubristic. OR optimistic, for that matter. I’m not sure that this is indeed fan-fic, if you look at the image (assuming that it’s remotely related to the storyline, of course).
I guess we’ll all find out! And yes, Annie, I agree that the idea wasn’t bad. The execution, on the other hand, should indeed be sentenced to death.
A few years back I would not have thought the game franchise could trademark “The Call of Cthulhu” for exclusive use by their franchise (the original HP Lovecraft story is PD; titles cannot be copyrighted but phrases can be trademarked). In that case, “The Call of Cthulhu” is trademarked by the game creators, including elements created for and unique to the game universe. I don’t think it would be a stretch to see NBC protecting characters or themes unique to their Grimm universe.
Now since the Brothers Grimm are dead and their stories are PD, commercial use of their original characters, themes and story ideas may be fair game, homage or parody (there have been a rash of Red Riding Hood movies). What are they going to do about it, show up as ghosts to enforce their IP rights in court?

I have to admit, the concept isn’t half bad. The font placement and choice is uninspired, but the image tells a story.
