To its credit, the book is pretty much about what the cover suggests: football vs. baseball, specifically in the sense of which player of which sport the gal in the middle is going to marry. It would be better balanced aesthetically if both guys were wearing their uniforms, however.
Definitely it would be better is both guys were in uniform.
Blowing up the picture, I suspect the cover assembler could not find a photo of highschool couple with boy in baseball uniform and pasted on a ball and glove. Close but cudda been better.
The cover suggests to me the opposing sides are school footballer v sandlot baseballer, not school footballer v school baseballer.

Hitch, I thought it was because he was the football fairy, laying footballs for little good boys and girls.
This picture would be so much more romantic of she had her other hand on his ball.
